Packaging & Production Design
When Bonnie first messaged me from Arizona over Instagram, she brought up a passion project cover I had posted in 2019, back when I said one of my 2020 goals was to illustrate more book covers. She said she loved my style and wanted me to design the cover for her first romance novel, Remy vs. Rome. Safe to say, I was freaking out! My dream of becoming a book cover designer was actually happening.
Working with Bonnie was such a fun intro into the world of book cover design. I got to read her manuscript, imagine Remy in Rome, and dream up the cover alongside her. We both had a Florence Pugh type in mind as our muse, and spent so much time chatting over video calls and random messages about outfits, colours, imagery, and all the little details that would make the story feel real.
The final cover felt so vibrant, fun, and full of life, and we were both giddy over it. Since this was my first real venture into book cover design, I was figuring out so much in real time, cover templates, print setup, spines, all of it. It was a huge learning curve, but it completely sparked my love for this kind of work.
Watching our little book make the rounds on Instagram and seeing the book girlies gush over the cover was such a surreal full-circle moment. It was the very beginning of Bonnie’s author journey and mine as a book cover designer, and I still think it was the best start!
